When wearing a sweater with a shirt, the key to achieving a sleek and modern look is choosing the right style of shirt. After all, some shirt styles are much more attractive than others, so it’s imperative to choose one that works well with your sweater.

Shirt styles that work best with men’s Sweaters are:

  • The Oxford shirt
  • The Chambray shirt
  • The denim shirt
  • The formal polo shirt with collar

Let’s take a closer look at each of these shirt styles so you can see why they work so well with sweaters.

The Oxford shirt

One of the most popular shirt styles for men, theOxford Shirtit is a closet bottom. It’s made from sturdy Cotton fabric and typically has a button-down collar, making it the perfect shirt to wear with a sweater.

The Oxford shirt not only has a collar that won’t get lost under your sweater, but it also looks great when worn with a sweater. The Classic design of the T-shirt makes it the perfect T-shirt to wear with a sweater, giving you a stylish and sophisticated look.

The Chambray shirt

Another style of shirt that works well with men’s sweaters is the Chambray shirt. Like the Oxford shirt, the Chambray shirt is made of durable Cotton fabric. But what distinguishes the chambray shirt is its Blue color.

The Blue color of the chambray shirt complements the colors of most a of men’s sweaters, giving you a stylish and modern look. And like the Oxford shirt, the chambray shirt often has a collar that doesn’t get lost under the sweater.

The denim shirt

Thedenim shirtIt’s another style of shirt that looks great when worn with a men’s sweater. The denim shirt has a casual style that works well with most sweaters, giving you a relaxed and elegant look.

And just like the Oxford shirt and chambray shirt, the denim shirt also has a sturdier collar design that won’t loosen up and hide under the neckline of your sweater.

Denim Shirts are strictly a casual garment. After all, you wouldn’t use a pair ofjeansto the office, so don’t wear a jean shirt with your sweater to an imporTant meeting or date.

The formal polo shirt with collar

The last style of shirt that works well with men’s sweaters is the formal collared polo. The formal collared polo has a sleek and sophisticated look that makes it the perfect shirt to wear with a sweater.

The best thing about a formal collared polo shirt is its versatility. They stay true to the casual nature of polo shirts on the BODY, but turn things up a notch when it comes to the neck. Like a poplin shirt, a formal collared polo shirt has a collar designed to stay stiff and upright, making it the perfect shirt to wear with a sweater.

Which pullovers are best for a sweater and shirt combo?

Now that we’ve covered which shirt styles work best with men’s sweaters, it’s time to look at which men’s sweaters are best for a sweater-shirt combo.

The best sweaters for a sweater and shirt combo are:

Let’s take a closer look at each of these sweater styles so you can see why they work so well with shirts.

The V-neck Sweater

TheMen’s V-neck sweaterIt’s a classic sweater style that’s been around for decades. It is made from a variety of different materials, including Wool, Cotton, and Cashmere.

The V-neck sweater has a timeless look that complements most shirt styles. And because the V-neck sweater exposes your shirt neckline, it’s the perfect sweater to wear with a shirt and tie combo.

For this style of sweater, I would avoid wearing a chambray or denim shirt. The V-neck sweater reveals much of the shirt underneath, which means the neck and chest of the shirt will be on display. And since chambray and denim shirts have a casual look, the texture and Blue tones could overwhelm your outfit and make it look too busy.

Instead, opt for a shirt in a Solid color or with a subtle pattern. A light blue or White shirt will complement the V-neck sweater and give it a classy and sophisticated look.

The round neck sweater

The Crewneck sweater is another classic sweater stylesico that looks great when worn with a shirt. Like the V-neck sweater, the Crew neck sweater is made from a variety of different materials, including Wool, Cotton, and cashmere.

The Crew neck sweater has a timeless look that complements most shirt styles. And because the Crew neck sweater covers the neckline of the shirt, it’s more versatile in the styles of shirts it’s paired with. Since it shows less of the shirt, you can wear a shirt with a busier pattern or a more pronounced collar.

For this style of shirt, I would recommend pairing it with a formal collared polo or oxford shirt. The clean lines of the sweater will complement the shirt collar and give it a stylish look.

The CARDIGAN

The latest men’s sweater style that works great with a shirt is theCARDIGAN sweaterThe cardigan sweater is the most prominent of the three sweater styles, as it is an open garment that can be worn as a jacket (open or buttoned/zippered).

As a result of this, it can meet the needs of both casual and formal settings depending on how you design it. This also means that you can wear most shirt styles with this garment and still look stylish and modern.

In formal settings, stick to wearing your cardigan sweater with an Oxford shirt and tie. Doing this will keep the formality levels of your outfit high and ensure that you look smart and stylish.

For a more casual sweater and shirt combo, consider pairing your cardigan sweater with a denim shirt. The relaxed silhouette of the cardigan will perfectly complement the casual style of the shirt. And when worn with a pair of Chinos, this combination will give you an effortlessly elegant look.

3 ways to combine a men’s shirt and sweater

Styling a shirt-sweater combo isn’t rocket science. However, there are a few things to keep in mind to ensure that your outfit looks stylish and modern.

In this section, I am going to share with you three shirt and sweater combinations that will make you look your best this winter.

The informal look: cardigan, shirt and jeans

This is the most common way to combine a shirt and a sweater and is perfect for informal settings, such as going to the movies or having lunch with friends.

To achieve this look, start by pairing a cardigan sweater with a shirt and jeans. The shirt can be any style you like, but I advise sticking with a shirt that is either a solid color or with a subtle pattern or texture (like denim). This will ensure that your outfit doesn’t look too ‘office wear’.

As for jeans, I would recommend sticking to dark wash jeans to complement the shirt and sweater. Double jean never looks good, so make sure the color of the jean shirt and jeans don’t match.

Finish the look with a pair of WhitesDress Shoesfor a casual finishing touch that is sure to bring your outfit to a stylish conclusion.

The Smart Casual Look: Crew Neck Sweater, Shirt and Chinos

If you want to upgrade your shirt and sweater combo, consider pairing your shirt with chinos instead of jeans. Doing this will immediately transform your outfit from casual to smart casual.

For this look, start by pairing a crew neck sweater with a formal collarpoleand chinos (in a color that contrasts with the sweater) as you would with jeans. Tuck the polo into the chinos to give your outfit a more refined look.

To finish off the outfit, consider adding a pair ofLoafersorChelsea Boots. These Shoes will complement the smart-casual style of your outfit and ensure you look flawless from head to toe.

The formal look: V-neck sweater, shirt and PANTS

If you want to wear a shirt and sweater combo in aformal setting, consider pairing your shirt with PANTS instead of jeans or chinos. Doing this will ensure that your outfit looks classy and stylish.

To achieve this look, start by pairing a V-neck jumper with an Oxford shirt, tie and textured Suit Pants (in a contrasting color to the jumper). The shirt must be tucked into the PANTS as you would a Suit – and be sure to grab a neat Black/Brown Belt to tie the whole look together.

As for Shoes, I would recommend wearing Dress Shoes likeOxfords or Derbys. These Shoes will complement the formality of your outfit and will ensure you look elegant and elegant.
